Dusa Blue Light treatments penetrate into the dermal layer of skin destroying the bacteria that cause acne lesions without harming the surface skin cells. When the skin is exposed to the Dusa Blue Light, the blue light enters the sebaceous glands that harbor the bacteria. In turn the sebaceous glands create oxygen molecules that than destroy the bacteria and help the healing process. With the bacteria gone, acne begins to clear up and skin begins to heal.

Treatment is very simple, relatively painless, and can be soothing. You will sit in front of the Dusa Blue Light for about 20 minutes per session. The Dusa Blue Light is warm, but not hot. You will be given eye goggles for protection. Some patients feel a slight tingling, sting or prickly sensation during the session. For patients with more severe acne and acne scars, Dusa Blue Light treatment is used in conjunction with Levulan. Levulan is a pre-treatment and is applied to your skin for up to 30 minutes. The Levulan is completely washed off before Dusa Blue Light treatment begins.

Dusa Blue Light treatments won't cause immediate or overnight results. Once the bacteria is destroyed, your skin will need time to heal. As the treatments progress, your skin may swell or redden, and if used in conjunction with Levulan, some crusting and peeling may occur until your series of treatments are complete. During your treatment series, your skin will be very sensitive to the sun. Wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and covering your skin for protection is very important.
