Cynosure, the maker of the Cynergy laser, chose PDL and Nd:YAG for several reasons. PDL energy is highly absorbed by blood, so very little of this laser light is needed to zap vascular formations and there is little heating of surrounding tissue, minimizing each patient's risk of thermal injury. The vascular network is the series of small blood vessels and capillaries that are often the most fragile part of the circulatory system and most likely to cause epidermal skin blemishes. The Nd:YAG targets vascular structures once they've been altered by PDL energy. As a result, by first using PDL, much less Nd:YAG energy is required, lowering the risk of side effects.

In addition to treating vascular lesions, these laser light wavelengths are ideal for laser hair removal. Because of the characteristics of the laser light the Cynergy system uses, this laser can target almost any hair follicle, even the lightest hair on tan or darker skin.
